On March 24, the negotiation of the Progression Agreement with University of Southampton (UoS) culminated in success with professor Lou Hansong, the dean of ZJU’s School of Humanities (SoH), signing the Agreement online following Jane Folkingham, the dean of Faculty of Social Science, UoS.
The “Zhejiang-Southampton Progression Program” is an innovative joint education program planned by the Schools of Humanities of ZJU and UoS. Both universities have outstanding education resources and a solid foundation of collaboration.
The two schools, with similar disciplinary structure, enjoyed frequent people-to-people exchanges among faculty members. In March 2019, a UoS delegation led by Vice President Alex Neill visited the SoH and kicked off the formal discussion on the possibility of extending the current cooperation to the field of student joint education. The “Zhejiang-Southampton Progression Program” came into being against such background.
The SoH planned to pay a return visit to Southampton this year and sign the agreement there. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has adjusted the plan to online signing. Both parties show great confidence in this agreement: Southampton aims to build it as a model cooperation program while the SoH regards it as the starting point of a series of high-quality joint education programs that school has to offer.
